i've heard that you shouldnt minimize stuff like grains, pasta, sugars, and meat? And that fruits & vegetables are good for anti-inflammation. But i tryed "lo carbing it" for a couple months.. basically just meat, cheese, fruits, n vegetables. i know its not looked at as healthy to do that, but actually my body felt great and i also lost 15 lbs
Yea, I'm on a diet that doesn't have any kind of foods that could cause inflamation, nothing processed (no processed sugar, preservatives, that kind of thing) no dairy prducts (except eggs) no white flour, no meat (except certain kinds of fish on occasion and some organic poultry on even rare-er occasion, but I really don't eat much meat at all) so basically I eat a lot of vegetables and I'm not supposed to over do it on fruits. I was hoping to find someone else with a similar diet so we could complain to eachother.
Yeahh.. recently I have been cutting back on the dairy products. lol. Its killing me. Me with no ice cream is a bad combo. lol. but Im going to see if it helps my joint pain.
Sydne, your diet sounds a lot like what Andrew Weil recommends for an anti-inflammatory diet. (www.DrWeil.com). I really respect his advice and the whole integrative medicine movement. Dr. Mark Hyman (Ultrametabolism books) has very similar recommendations. They're like a Mediterranean diet with little or no meat. That's what I'm striving for, but I find it very difficult when my prednisone dose is up.
Lauren, in the end, most lupus patients get early atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries, with heart attacks and strokes). That means we need to avoid the meat and cheese trap; we'll pay in the end.
To Samantha: I can't live without Soy Dream (dairy-less icecream), I get the chocolate kind with chunks of "brownie" in it, and I promise it's just as good as realy ice cream. Other wise I would probably kill somebody, girls have needs, and one of those needs is chocolate. And I would strongly suggest staying away from beef and not eat so much meat if you can, I know it's hard, but you can do it.
To Essie: I go to an alternative medicine doctor who does integrative medicine stuff, I've never heard of the guy you're talking about but I'm sure my doctor has.
Im going to have to try that ice cream then. Thanks! and yes, Im trying to stay away from to much protein ecspecially beef. When I want to eat meat I turn to fish.. not as good but it works for me.
I cut way back on my meats about 2 years ago after reading "Natural Cures for Lupus Patients." The author claims that since our immune systems are attacking the proteins in our bodies, decreasing your protein intake will result in less activity It has really helped. I am still in "active Lupus" but I haven't had a major flare or a hospital trip in over a year. I've also cut out almost all dairy. I don't totally restrict myself. If I feel the urge for something, I let myself have it. Not only to calm the craving, but also because when I'm paying the price the next day it reminds me to think twice about it next time. I have noticed that fish and turkey are the 2 meats that I can eat without repercussion.
She also speaks out against alcohol and caffeine. I don't drink very often, but I'm a coffee addict. I'm not in any hurry to banish coffee from my diet just yet. :)
