What are good jobs for Lupies?

posted 24 months ago by stina

I havent worked since 2004. I was finally diagnosed in 2006 & due to my history my doctors suggested I should apply for SSI during this long extensive process of waiting I got a lawyer & basically waited for 2yrs! I met with my lawyer a week before the court date in order for them to suggest I withdraw my case because I did not have enough evidence. My doctors say I'm diabled but the government says I'm not! Since I have school loans to pay for (which i had to drop out of because of being ill) I am wondering if anyone can suggest any jobs? Or let me know what line of work they are in... & what they do to cope throughout the day.

I suffer from chronic fatigue, chronic pain especially in my legs, hips, hands, arms, back, & moderate to severe migrains.

Please help! Thanks...

I believe it all depends on how much you can handle, i got really sick in 05 and ended up on SSI, but now i am thinking about going back to work but i feel 100% so i am going to take the Corrections officer exam for my area. but i know some people with lupus couldn't do that line of work. SO i think each indviual case is different

What about something in a light retail area, where you don't have to lift anything heavy and you can work part time?  I used to work at a Hallmark when I was in college and I can imagine that would be a good job.  This sounds terrible - but think about something an elderly retiree would apply for.  Those are the kinds of jobs I know I could do on my worst days.  I'm a front desk receptionist at a docs office.  There are very low physical demands, but I check out mentally from time to time, which causes me to make a lot of mistakes.

I'd suggest something sedentary where you do not work under fluorescent lights but use the regular light bulbs.  You'll need a high degree of autonomy so that you can rest when you need to.   Try to start part time and work up to full time as you're comfortable.   Sometimes a state/gov job will help because after so many months you have job security.  Hope this helps.

It is so hard to say what someone can do. Lupus is so odd. We all have different symptoms and problems. I teach.  This has been getting hard for me because of problems with my bladder. I am seriously considering quitting my job. I was declared disabled in 1995 and decided to try to work. If you need some help about disability, message me and I will talk to my mom about you. My mom helped me get my disability, helped my twin sister get hers and helped my uncle get his. None of us even had a lawyer. So, she knows something. I hope you are well.

How are you doing?  I was dx with FMS and CFS in 1995 and was fortunate to continue to work.  I was then diagnosed with a ton of other "fun-filled" stuff like UCTD in 2008 and shortly thereafter I was told I needed to be put on disability.  I am still fighting for it, as it is my 3rd time.  UGh...

Anyway..I would suggest something that you might be able to do from home or part time but something that is not so stressful.  Good luck.
