PLEASE HELP - Is anyone on Boniva?

posted 12 months ago by kara

I got some devastating news last week. My husband and I wanted to start trying to have a baby and my Rheumatologist told me it would be OK, as long as I have been off Immuran for 2 weeks and that I stop the Plaquenil and Boniva right before we start trying.

Last week a high-risk OBGYN told me that I have to be off Boniva for at least 5 years before he'd be comfortable with us trying to have a baby. Apparently it is very harmful to a fetus and it stays in the bones for a very long time.

Is anyone else on Boniva because of bone density issues due to long-term use of Prednisone? Has anyone gotten pregnant while on Boniva?

Not to undermine your doctor, but have you gotten a second opinion or researched his claim more thouroughly? Why did your doctor want you to stop Plaquenil? My high risk ob/gyn let me stay on it and prednisone. I haven't taken Boniva yet, but I have a feeling that it is coming. I am in the prcoess of scheduling a hip surgery because of what the prednisone did to my hips. It's a terrible medicine that saves us from more damage a lot of the time. I'm praying for you, Kara. I know how it feels to want to start a family and being told that you cannot do it yet. *hugs*
