What do you do to raise awareness for Lupus?

Many of you are involved with fundraising activities for Lupus and this in turn helps raise awareness for Lupus. What do you to fundraise? And what do you to raise awareness for Lupus? Your suggestions can give others in the community ideas about how they might go about raising awareness in their area.

    my co-workers and I sold special fundraising boxes of KRISPY KREME DONUTS  to raise money for the Broward County (South Florida) Walk for Lupus. We managed to raise over $1,300 in the span of 3 weeks. (can u believe this was only @ the hospital where I work!?).  just contact ur local krispy kreme and ask them for the special form and place ur orders!  (of course u have to pay for the boxes first. the minimum order is 50 boxes with 12 donuts)

    I run a lupus support group in LA and part of our mission is educating our members and their family members.  We also fundraised $3000 last year to send some of our members to the LFA's lupus advocacy day.

    I host a lupus support group in North San Diego county. Its a very new group! But I have found out that others are contacting me and want to get involved. One of my friends raised almost $3000 with her lupus walk team! So we all go at it together.

    I try to educate people on the street. I've had kids ask me if I was burned by acid. Moms worry that their child might have Lupus because they present a rash similar to my own rash. I explain what Lupus is, how it is treated, that there's no cure YET.  I also take part in the Lupus Walks that the L.F.A. started doing in Los Angeles two years ago. I alone was only able to raise less than $100 the first year, and last year I topped $300. Since I did it alone, writing letters and stuff, i think it was an okay attempt. This year I'll be on the walk committee. I also took part in the Ad Council's upcoming LUPUS AWARENESS public service announcement campaign. It should start at end of February/beginning of March.

    I have a student of mine who is riding his bike 4000 miles from vancouver to massachusetts to raise money and awareness. My high school students have raised almost $7000 with fundraisers. It is a real comunity grass roots type of thing and I am very proud of them. check out the web site....www.lupusride.com.
